The late afternoon sun warmed Amelia's face as she strolled towards Professor Davies' office. She hummed a tuneless melody, the weight of the day—a successful lab experiment—leaving her shoulders light. She planned to casually mention her findings, bask in Davies’ praise, and then perhaps suggest a celebratory coffee. She knocked, the sound echoing a bit too loudly in the quiet corridor.

"Come in!" The voice was muffled, and when Amelia opened the door, she found Davies at his desk, head in his hands.

"Professor? Everything alright?"

He looked up, his face a mask of weary acceptance. "Amelia, come in. Sit. We need to talk." A long sigh escaped him.
